Marvel reveals the record-setting runtime for its upcoming Punisher Special Presentation

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard new details about Marvel’s upcoming Punisher special. Still, the Writers Guild of America is here to pull back the curtain on one very important question: How long is the MCU‘s next scrum with Frank Castle? According to a listing on the official WGAW website, The Punisher Special Presentation will run 60 minutes, making it the longest Marvel Special Presentation yet.

Who stars in Marvel’s Punisher special?

Reinaldo Marcus Green directs The Punisher Special Presentation, in addition to co-writing the screenplay with Jon Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joining Bernthal in the upcoming Disney+ special are Jason R. Moore, Roe Rancell, and Mila Jaymes, with Chelsea Brea, Dominick Mancino, Evelyn O. Vaccaro, and Tom Johnson contributing to the cast.

The 60-minute runtime makes The Punisher Special Presentation Marvel’s longest entry in its Special Presentation series, with 2022’s Werewolf By Night clocking in at 53 minutes, while the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special runs for 42 minutes.

Bernthal on giving fans the Frank Castle they deserve

While Marvel’s Punisher special does not have an official title or plot details, Jon Bernthal teased the upcoming presentation by saying the project “will not be Punisher-lite.” He added that “Frank has no interest in breaking out [of] the darkness.”

“I care very deeply about Frank, I’m really grateful that I’m getting the opportunity to tell the story that I think the fans deserve,” Bernthal said. “We’re giving it our all, and we’re trying to tell a Frank Castle story that we’re going to turn our back on the audience — it’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be light.”

Punisher: Brand New Day

If fans want more from Bernthal’s Frank Castle, they can catch the bullet-chewing badass in the new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In the trailer, Punisher and Spider-Man share a brief exchange while simultaneously chasing an armored car through the streets of New York City. Before Frank can cause too much damage, Spidey takes away his ride, then covers his filthy mouth with webbing before Frank can bump the wall-crawler’s movie up to an R-rating.
