The Dallas Cowboys kept their faint playoff hopes alive with a 27-20 win over the New York Giants on Thanksgiving.
DeMarvion Overshown’s pick six in the second quarter swung momentum in the Cowboys’ favor, and a stout defensive display allowed them to register their first home win of the season.
Incredibly it was their first home win in 334 days, a result that helped them avoid their third 0-6 start to a home season, which would have matched the two worst teams in franchise history, 1960 and 1989.
After the game Micah Parsons, who finished with one tackle for loss and four quarterback hits to earn ‘Madden Thanksgiving MVP’ honors, spoke confidently about Dallas’ playoff hopes after what was their second straight win.
“There’s been a lot of trash talk out there, talking about what difference can we make. We still got some guys coming back from the chamber,” Parsons told Fox’s Erin Andrews after the game.
“I’m telling you all right now, we’re coming.”
Dallas still alive in the playoff race
Following back-to-back division wins over the Giants and Washington Commanders, the Cowboys remain alive in the race for a playoff spot.
Jerry Jones’ side currently hold a six percent chance of making the postseason according to NFL.com. With the fifth and sixth seeds like heading to the NFC North, it means the Cowboys can only realistically challenge for the seventh seed.
That spot is currently held by the Commanders, whom the Cowboys hold the tiebreaker over thanks to last week’s win, who have a 7-5 record.
The two teams will meet again in Dallas in Week 18.
Despite the slim chances, Parsons remains steadfast in his belief that the Cowboys can pull off the unthinkable if they keep up their current run.
“To be honest, it’s really been, ‘Why not us?’ Everybody counted us out. It was just like, enough’s enough,” said Parsons.
“We know what we got, we know what we can do here and I believe in everyone of these guys here. I believe we’re going to turn it around and make a run.
“As soon as I was able to get at least 90 percent, it was about just fighting through it, getting back on the field because I know I can help out here.”
