Cristiano Ronaldo has not only stolen the spotlight with his exploits at Al-Nassr F.C., but his statements in his recent interview with Piers Morgan have also caused quite a stir.
After claiming that he considers himself a better player than his longtime rival, Lionel Messi, CR7 has once again divided soccer fans by downplaying the importance of the World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo turns celebration into a show
Cristiano reflects on his marriage and his soccer legacy
With a total of 34 trophies, the Portuguese star has established himself as one of the sport’s greatest icons. However, the World Cup -which many fans and players consider the most important trophy- is the one that Cristiano has yet to win.
The truth is that, after December 18, 2022, when his rival from his time at Real Madrid, Leo Messi, became champion with the Argentina national team in Qatar, many fans tipped the scales in favor of the current Inter Miami captain.
Despite this, Ronaldo stressed that winning this championship is “not his dream” and stated that winning it or not does not define a player’s quality and talent: “To define what? To define if I’m one of the best in history? To win one competition, six games, seven games. You think it’s fair?” he questioned in the interview with Morgan.
However, in the same conversation, CR7 also discussed his marriage to his girlfriend and model, Georgina Rodrguez. The couple announced their engagement on August 11, 2025, via an Instagram post, although they have not set a date for the big day. Until now:
“We planned to do it after the World Cup-with the trophy,” Cristiano confessed, sparking a wave of fans mocking him, not only for his belief that he will win it, but also for his contradiction in stating that it is “not his dream” to be champion:
“After which trophy?” one of them asked. “The wedding might never happen with this condition,” another one wrote. “In short, it’s never happening,” commented another user. “Meaning the World Cup is still your dream. But the guy lied that ‘winning the World Cup is not his dream.’ So confused,” added another.
The truth is that winning the World Cup would not only fulfill his desire to celebrate his wedding alongside the prestigious trophy, but he would also continue to impress with his track record.
Close to reaching 1,000 goals in his career (952), the 2026 edition would be his sixth appearance in the tournament. Will he manage to win the World Cup this time?
