Russell Wilson wins QB battle, but Justin Fields still in play

Russell Wilson may have won the Steelers’ quarterback showdown, but don’t count Justin Fields out just yet. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin dropped a hint that should have Falcons fans keeping a close eye on their game plan. During a chat with Rich Eisen, Tomlin didn’t mince words when asked about his strategy for Week 1 against the Falcons.

“My buddy Raheem Morris better be ready for some Justin Fields action,” Tomlin teased, sending a clear message that Fields might not be just warming the bench. Eisen tried to pry more details out of Tomlin, but the Steelers coach remained tight-lipped. However, he couldn’t resist dropping a subtle hint that Fields might be more involved than people think.

“There’s too much talent there to just be watching,”Tomlin said with a knowing smile. He stopped short of revealing any specific plays, but it’s clear Fields is still very much in the mix. Tomlin acknowledged the decision to start Wilson wasn’t an easy one, especially after both quarterbacks impressed during training camp. “It was tough, but in a good way,” Tomlin admitted. “Both of these guys showed they could lead this team.”

Fields, who was traded from the Bears in the offseason, had a solid preseason showing. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 199 yards and added 48 rushing yards, despite being sacked five times.

Wilson, on the other hand, is ready to make his mark with his third NFL team after a couple of rocky seasons with the Broncos. “I’m here to win, plain and simple,” Wilson said, confident and focused on the task ahead.

The Steelers’ QB drama might be settled for now, but with Tomlin keeping everyone guessing, Week 1 is shaping up to be a game you won’t want to miss.
