An outstanding performance in the Super Bowl, even being named its MVP, does not guarantee a secure place the following year. That is precisely what current Seattle Seahawks champion running back Kenneth Walker III is experiencing.
Regarding this matter, the franchise’s general manager, John Schneider, provided clarity about the situation and what they plan to do with their star player, who carried the team on his shoulders in the ground attack.
One might think that after what he accomplished in 2025, Walker III would be management’s prized asset in the quest for a repeat championship. Unfortunately, Schneider revealed something pointing in the opposite direction.

The general manager expressed during the NFL champions’ parade in a joking tone about what would follow for the running back. To which Walker responded:

Everything appears to indicate that the team will not place the franchise tag on him, and it seems they will allow him to test free agency in March.
The Seahawks prefer to prioritize other players
Multiple reports suggest that Seattle will not assign the franchise tag to Walker III. The team wants to secure Jaxon Smith-Njigba and hopes to bring back other players through free agency as their top priorities.
Moreover, retaining Walker III would cost the NFL champions significant money, including taxes that could ultimately force them to part ways with their player.
