Patrick Mahomes is no longer invincible as the Texans hand him one of the worst games of his career

Sunday Night Football was supposed to be the springboard Kansas City needed to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Instead, it turned into a nightmare: their postseason odds collapsed and the whispers about the end of a dynasty grew louder than ever.

Arrowhead Stadium played host to one of the league’s elite defenses and a Houston Texans team that just secured its fifth straight victory – officially turning themselves into a dangerous underdog if they punch their ticket to the playoffs.

The worst night of Patrick Mahomes’ career

Patrick Mahomes has proven countless times that he’s the best quarterback in the NFL, and that title still belongs to him. But this season has spiraled far from the script.

Week by week, the cracks in a dynasty that reached five of the last six Super Bowls have become impossible to ignore.

Houston completely exposed Mahomes and his hero-ball tendencies. Time after time he tried to save the day with his legs – finishing as the team’s leading rusher with 59 yards, 29 more than Kareem Hunt. Yet the real killer was the turnovers: the Texans became the first team since 2022 – and only the fourth in his entire career – to intercept Mahomes three times in a single game.

Kansas City’s playoff probability has now crashed to just 16%. For a franchise that had made the postseason feel automatic, the very real possibility of missing the playoffs – and not even sniffing another Super Bowl – is staring them in the face.

The Houston Texans improved to 8-5, claiming the AFC’s No. 7 seed behind a dominant defense that has now neutralized multiple elite quarterbacks. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs dropped to 6-7, with their playoff hopes slipping into long-shot territory.
