As the Dallas Cowboys approach the final weeks of the regular season under head coach Brian Schottenheimer, Dak Prescott finds himself back in a familiar place, carrying both the expectations of “America’s Team” and the responsibility of pulling it out of a hole.
The year began with optimism. Prescott opened the season throwing to CeeDee Lamb and newcomer George Pickens, a pairing that immediately reshaped the Cowboys‘ offense.

Pickens‘ first year alongside Lamb has produced explosive moments and stretches where Dallas looks capable of overwhelming defenses through the air. When the timing is right, the offense hums.
But the standings have not kept pace with the talent. Dallas enters Week 15 with a 6-6-1 record and a looming matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, knowing full well that comfort is no longer part of the equation.
Despite the star power on the roster, the Cowboys sit on the outside of the playoff picture, forced to treat each remaining game as a near elimination scenario.
Prescott addressed that reality this week, and his tone was not one of deflection or frustration. Asked about the weight of the situation, the quarterback framed it as something he welcomes rather than resents.
“It’s not heavy,” Prescott said. “Even if I feel like I think about it a lot. I say that to say, like I want that. That’s unfortunately the position that we’ve put ourselves in.”
A narrow path, but a familiar one
The numbers underline how thin the margin has become. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Dallas’ playoff odds sit around 10 percent. The Cowboys remain locked in a race with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the NFC East, while the Washington Commanders and New York Giants trail well behin
Still, Prescott‘s individual season has been difficult to criticize. In Schottenheimer‘s system, he has produced at an elite level, throwing 26 touchdowns, surpassing 3,600 passing yards, and completing 69.0 percent of his attempts.
He currently leads the NFL in total yards, a reflection of both efficiency and the volume of responsibility placed on him week after week.
