The Buffalo Bills have a golden opportunity in this season’s playoffs. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the kryptonite of Josh Allen and the Bills in four of the past five postseasons, are no longer a threat. Neither are Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, the only other team to knock Buffalo out of the playoffs, aside from the Chiefs, in the past five seasons.
Expectations are high because of the current path to reach the Super Bowl, but there are plenty of hungry AFC teams standing in their way. The Bills have their own flaws, too, coming into the postseason as the No. 6 seed and having to start out on the road against the 13-4 Jacksonville Jaguars. Many still expect the Bills to win initially and go deep in the playoffs, potentially all the way to the Super Bowl. Even the betting markets aren’t buying the team’s issues, as they’re favored against the Jaguars.
Buffalo Bills post exciting video of Josh Allen MVP season
That sets up as a make-or-break type of game for Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who has done nothing but win since he arrived to Buffalo. McDermott has an impressive 98-50 record with the Bills, his first head coaching gig. But the inability to reach the Super Bowl to this point, with an MVP at quarterback, has McDermott on the hot seat.
John Harbaugh waiting to see what happens with Bills before making decision
It sounds like arguably the top head coach candidate on the market sees it that way, too. Recently fired from the Baltimore Ravens, it appears that John Harbaugh is waiting to see how the Bills fare in the playoffs before making a decision on his next move. Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson recently spoke about the possibility of Harbaugh replacing McDermott if the Bills once again fail in the playoffs.
But rather than immediately hit the road and get himself in front of NFL team owners or their search groups, Harbaugh’s camp put out the message that official interviews wouldn’t commence until the following week at the earliest. What is the motivation behind the patience?… “I’m sure they’re waiting to see what happens with [the] Buffalo [Bills],” one coaching agent said.
Another agent mentioned the Green Bay Packers, too. Harbaugh is seemingly waiting to see every available opening before making a decision. The Bills job would obviously jump to the top of any candidate’s list, due to the ability to work with Allen.
