Xabi Alonso said goodbye to Real Madrid and its fans in a brief statement through his social networks, in which he regrets the missed opportunity and assures that he has done his best.

“This professional stage is over and it has not gone as we would have liked,” Xabi Alonso began his statement. “Coaching Real Madrid has been an honor and a responsibility,” continued the Madrid coach before thanking everyone. “I am grateful to the club, the players and especially to the fans and Madridismo for their confidence and support. I leave with respect, gratitude and pride in having done my best.”
The former Real Madrid coach, who names the club but not president Florentino Perez, was only able to enjoy eight months at the club after leaving Bayer Leverkusen, but the team’s poor form since November has led to his premature departure.
