The Los Angeles Rams are back in the NFC Championship, just like in the 2021 season when they won the Super Bowl. Led by Sean McVay, the Rams defeated the Chicago Bears in a dramatic overtime thriller to move one step closer to the NFL’s biggest game. Their next challenge will be a visit to the Seattle Seahawks, the NFC’s top seed.
Matthew Stafford shares a special moment with his biggest fans before Rams battle
Caleb Williams, the second-year quarterback for the Bears, kept Chicago’s hopes alive with a dramatic 14-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds to tie the game. However, in overtime, Williams threw an interception to Kamren Curl, which set up the drive that ended with a 42-yard field goal, eliminating the team from the Windy City.
Matthew Stafford, a strong MVP candidate, didn’t have his best game but still threw for 258 yards, delivering when it mattered despite the freezing conditions at Soldier Field. Kyren Williams added 87 yards and scored twice.
Jimmy Garoppolo: Another conference championship
With the Rams now heading to the NFC Championship against the Seahawks, backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will appear in his seventh career conference final. In NFL history, he ranks just behind Tom Brady in terms of conference championship appearances.
However, of those seven appearances, Garoppolo has only started in two, both with the San Francisco 49ers. The rest were with the New England Patriots and, most recently, two with the Los Angeles Rams.
For context, Tom Brady played in 14 conference championships, winning 12 and losing only twice-once with the Patriots against the Denver Broncos in 2015, and once with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 against the Rams, a season in which he had already won the Super Bowl in 2020.
So, Garoppolo will once again experience a conference championship from the sidelines, as the Rams are currently 2.5-point underdogs against the Seahawks, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying matchup.
