Nassur Bacem, a 27-year-old Moncarapachense footballer, died while playing a match against Imortal in the quarter-finals of the Algarve Football Association Cup.

The newspaper ‘A Bola’ reports that the defender collapsed unconscious 27 minutes into the match (which was not resumed), the victim of a cardiorespiratory arrest, at the Estadio Municipal de Olhao.

Nassur Bacem was treated by paramedics from the INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergencies), who arrived approximately 18 minutes later.

When he arrived at Faro hospital, they could only certify his death.

“The player said he felt unwell near the Imortal bench and collapsed.”

He was immediately assisted by our medical team (a doctor and a physiotherapist), who performed resuscitation maneuvers and used the defibrillator available in the stadium. Later, a team from INEM and an ambulance arrived,” said Joao Andre, vice-president of Moncarapachense, in ‘Record‘. The autopsy will be carried out in the coming days.

Nassur Bacem played in the youth ranks of Recreio de Agueda, Sporting, Gafanha, Academica, Sporting de Braga and Leixoes, and in senior football he played for Matosinhos, Vista Alegre, Maritimo, Oliveira do Hospital, Camacha and Moncarapachense.
