Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But You, Madame Web), Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Jennifer’s Body), Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us, 1923), and Michele Morrone (365 Days, Subservience) star in the “sexy” psychological thriller The Housemaid for Lionsgate and director Paul Feig, whose credits include Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters, and A Simple Favor. Based on the novel by Freida McFadden, the film has the following synopsis: In The Housemaid, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) is a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), an upscale, wealthy couple. A Hit
JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray gave The Housemaid a 7/10 review (you can read it HERE), calling the movie “campy, trashy, and fun.” Moviegoers obviously enjoyed it, because good word-of-mouth drove the movie past the $300 million mark at the global box office.
This one always had franchise potential, as McFadden has written multiple follow-ups to her novel: The Housemaid’s Secret, The Housemaid’s Wedding, and The Housemaid is Watching. Now that The Housemaid has become the highest-grossing film of Sydney Sweeney’s career, Lionsgate has given the greenlight to a sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, with Sweeney returning in the lead role.
