When winter blankets Kansas City, Brittany Mahomes doesn’t just bundle up – she transforms a snowy day into an extraordinary family adventure.
With her husband, Patrick Mahomes, sidelined due to a serious knee injury, Brittany has become the mastermind of imaginative activities for their three young children.
The Kansas City Chiefs star suffered torn ACL and LCL ligaments late in the season, ending another dominant campaign and forcing him into early recovery.

While Patrick focuses on rehabbing his knee for a return next year, he’s also watching the snow pile up outside alongside Brittany and their children – Sterling Skye (4), Patrick “Bronze” Lavon III (3), and Golden Raye (1).
Rather than let a snowstorm turn into a day trapped indoors, Brittany took inspiration from a viral social-media idea and decided to bring it to life in her backyard.
What could have been a simple playtime activity quickly evolved into a multiday, labor-intensive project that left the family with a stunning, rainbow-colored igloo.
Backyard igloo that became a family affair
Brittany documented the process on Instagram, giving followers a behind-the-scenes look at her “rookie” attempt to construct a winter masterpiece. The project required filling dozens of trays with water and colorful food dye, then freezing them for days.
Once solid, the ice cubes were carefully stacked and shaped with water acting as a bonding agent. The result was a fully walk-in igloo large enough for Sterling and Bronze to explore inside safely, with a cheerful, rainbow-tinted aesthetic that made the effort worthwhile.
In her post, Brittany candidly admitted that the build was far more challenging than anticipated.
“When you see this idea on Instagram and think it’s a good idea to do, it’s really important… that you should probably think again,” she joked. She also added, “We would say we’ll do better next time, but there will never be a next time,” highlighting both the fun and the effort that went into the ambitious project.
Patrick Mahomes didn’t hold back his admiration for his wife. The two-time league MVP commented on the post, calling Brittany the “best mom out there!!” with two heart emojis, sharing a heartfelt acknowledgment of her dedication and creativity.
The post delighted fans and offered a glimpse into the Mahomes family’s supportive and playful dynamic, even during the quarterback’s rehabilitation.
Beyond the igloo, the Mahomes home has been full of ordinary winter pleasures, from snow angels to imaginative indoor play, all made special by Brittany‘s energy and creativity.
Through her efforts, she has shown that memorable family experiences don’t require big budgets or perfect weather.
