Eddie Murphy, Eva Longoria to therapize a crime boss and his family in a new comedy

The world could always use a few good laughs, and Eddie Murphy and Eva Longoria are ready to give us reasons to clutch our sides and catch our breath. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the dynamic duo, who starred alongside Pete Davidson in last year’s crime comedy The Pickup, are reteaming for Attachment Parenting, an upcoming comedy from Amazon MGM Studios.

In addition to leading the cast, Murphy and Longoria will produce via their respective production studios alongside John Davis of Davis Entertainment. Eddie Murphy Productions’ Charisse Hewitt-Webster will also produce, as will Jade Miranda of Hyphenate, Longoria’s production banner.

What’s Attachment Parenting about?

Per THR’s exclusive report, Attachment Parenting “tells of a psychologist couple whose parenting philosophy is put to the ultimate test when they’re forced to counsel a crime boss’s dysfunctional family while being held hostage at a hotel.” For the moment, Attachment Parenting does not have a director or writer. However, we know the comedy is based on a short story by Julianna Baggott, a bestselling novelist, short story writer, essayist, and poet, who’s penned more than 20 books.

Attachment Parenting finds Eddie Murphy and Eva Longoria getting back into the swing of things at Amazon MGM Studios after starring in last year’s Tim Story-directed comedy The Pickup. With a story by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, The Pickup tells the story of what happens when a routine cash pickup turns into a deadly pursuit when ruthless criminals ambush two mismatched armored truck drivers with plans beyond the cash.

What else is Murphy working on?

Murphy is currently reprising his role as Donkey for Shrek 5, while his other two projects, The Pink Panther and Playas Ball, are waiting in the wings. Jeff Fowler (Sonic the Hedgehog) directs Murphy as Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther, which follows a smooth-running inspector who now has a pink panther for an imaginary friend as a result of a tragic event. Though the panther doesn’t speak, he does contribute to the case’s resolution.

Longoria gets animated

As for Longoria, she’s currently recording voice lines for the animated action comedy Wings of Freedom. In the upcoming film, a home-loving eagle, Salana (Longoria), is forced out of her jungle bird colony to join Pirro, an intrepid swift, and a member of the Animal Air Force. This unlikely duo embarks on an epic, high-flying adventure to stop a malevolent AI and save the world.

With Murphy and Longoria in lead roles, Attachment Parenting could be a hoot. I’m excited to find out who joins the cast as the crime boss and his dysfunctional family members. That’s two stories about therapists in one afternoon. Can we expect more in 2026? Probably. After all, who couldn’t use an honest-to-goodness therapy session with the way things are going?
