The Kansas City Chiefs look at the next NFL Draft window with eyes of excitement as there is a lot of talent waiting to be considered and treated right. The franchise, in need of new faces, put their aim on Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love, a running back who has proven to be at the level of the professional leagues after his great NCAA season.
However, the Chiefs are not the only ones who wrote Jeremiyah’s name on their list. With the draft period around the corner, the team commanded by Patrick Mahomes could see their desired star landing somewhere else long before they even go on the clock.
A “titanic” problem for the Chiefs
The big “X” to clear on the equation is the troubling presence of the Tennessee Titans in the battle for Love. Many NFL insiders suggest that the Titans view Love as the missing piece they need to stay relevant in the coming seasons. In their dreams, pairing Love with Cam Ward would recreate a dynamic similar to the legendary team they had during the early 2000s.

However, for the Chiefs, moving up from No. 9 to No. 3 or No. 4 to try jump the Titans would require a massive zig-zag of future draft picks that the franchise is not sure if willing to take. A player of Love’s caliber comes once in a while yes, but the sacrifices needed to accomplish that goal could be even worse for them in the long-run.
A generational talent breaking barriers
If history has shown us something, it is that the market is often unfair with the running backs. Since Saquon Barkley was taken second overall by the Giants in 2018, no other has been selected in the Top 5, representing nearly a decade where the position has been devaluated. Now, with Jeremiyah, the forgotten position seems to be getting back what it needed.
His numbers speak for themselves. In the recent Scouting Combine, he obtained incredible speed stats, locking a blistering 4.36-second 40-yard dash. This proves that, despite his height and weight (6-foot-tall and 214 pounds), he is a talent that defies physics and past records.
In the past season with Notre Dame, he got 1,372 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 199 carries. Great attributes for a kind of player that many front offices would kill to get.
The draft window is around the corner and the history books are waiting to be wrote on. Whether Love goes to Tennessee or Kansas is still a mystery; a mystery that will be solved in the upcoming weeks.
