Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino has denied speculation claiming that they are interested in signing former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
The MLS outfit have already signed a number of former La Liga stars, reuniting ex-Barcelona quartet Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez in Florida.
It was thought that Navas could be next in line as he prepares to leave PSG on July 1 as a free agent.
However, despite describing him as a player of “great hierarchy”, Martino that for the moment they are not looking to add to their options in the goalkeeper department.
“There is no need for me to study [Navas’] CV because he is a goalkeeper of great quality,” Martino said at the press conference after the 0-0 draw with Orlando City.
“In the last week there have been several names circulating, including other goalkeepers. First of all, with two months left until the transfer window reopens, we are not thinking about that.”
Martino puts faith in his stopper
Inter Miami have enjoyed a fine start to the MLS campaign and are currently a point clear at the summit of the Eastern Conference with nine victories from 14 games this season.
However, they have conceded 20 goals so far – twice as many as their closest challengers FC Cincinnati – leading to doubts being raised over Drake Callender’s position.
But Martino has assured the 26-year-old they are not looking to sign a replacement for him, seemingly ruling out Costa Rica international Navas, who has won 114 caps for his country.
“We are not looking to replace our goalkeeper. We are not looking to strengthen our goalkeeping,” he added.
Navas, 37, spent last season with French champions PSG after returning from a loan from English Premier League side Nottingham Forest. In his career, Keylor won three Champions League titles with Real Madrid before leaving Los Blancos in 2019.
