How LeBron James and Bronny James made NBA history as father-son duo in Lakers-Nets game

Coming into the 2024-25 NBA season, LeBron James had nothing left to prove to anyone. He had accomplished everything in the sport, but there was one thing that was more important than any individual accolade: Playing with his son, Bronny James, in the NBA.

The Los Angeles Lakers made that possible by drafting Bronny in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. While Bronny couldn’t carve out much of a role as a rookie, the father and son shared the court for a handful of special moments. This season, not a ton has changed in regards to Bronny except some more playing time, but on Friday night, the James family got to witness history.

LeBron and Bronny James team up for first father-son assist in NBA history

During the Lakers’ game against the Brooklyn Nets, LeBron dished out an assist to Bronny for a three-point field goal. That assist was the first father-son connection in the history of the NBA.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick had recently praised Bronny for his development in his second professional season. With more contributions in limited playing time, Bronny should see more minutes in the future. And if it comes alongside LeBron, then it will be all the more sweeter.
