An internal source with the Patriots has shared some concerning news about Mike Vrabel: “He’s not the same person anymore”

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has become the subject of increasing media scrutiny following reports that have drawn widespread attention across the NFL community. The situation began when Vrabel and NFL insider Dianna Russini were photographed together at a resort in Arizona at the end of March.

The images quickly circulated online, prompting speculation about the nature of their relationship and raising questions about professionalism within the league’s media and coaching ranks.

While early responses from those involved attempted to minimize the significance of the incident, the narrative only intensified as additional reports and images continued to surface.

Vrabel eventually addressed the situation ahead of the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Speaking to reporters, he acknowledged that his actions did not reflect the personal or professional standards he expects of himself. However, his statement did little to settle public debate, as many observers felt it lacked clarity.

The discussion escalated further when Russini resigned from The Athletic following an internal investigation launched by the New York Times. Meanwhile, Vrabel has remained under the spotlight, with analysts and commentators continuing to debate the impact of the situation on his reputation and leadership within the Patriots organization.

As the controversy has unfolded, attention has increasingly shifted toward how it may be affecting Vrabel behind the scenes.

Reports suggest shift in Vrabel’s presence

According to an internal source within the Patriots organization, there’s been a noticeable change in Vrabel‘s demeanor in recent weeks. The source described him as less focused and not operating with the same level of intensity that has defined much of his coaching career.

While no official disciplinary measures have been announced by the team, the perception inside the building is that the situation has placed a strain on his usual composure and leadership style.

NFL insider Albert Breer also provided insight into how Vrabel has been perceived by those around him. Breer stated that conversations with individuals close to the team suggest Vrabel’s trademark confidence and assertiveness have been diminished over the past couple of weeks.

“I can just tell you factually he has not been the same the last two weeks in that building. The sense I’ve gotten talking to people is that bravado and everything else, I think this has taken a chunk out of that,” Breer said.

“I really like Mike personally – I’ve covered him for a long time. I think deep down he’s a good guy with a good heart. I would say it’s like what you don’t want is that version of Mike Vrabel walking around for the next six weeks until summer. You want to find a way to get the full Mike Vrabel back.”

With offseason planning underway and the Patriots preparing for key roster decisions, consistency at the top remains essential. Analysts have pointed out that distractions involving leadership figures can sometimes ripple through an entire team environment, particularly in high-pressure professional settings like the NFL.

As the Patriots move deeper into the offseason, attention will remain on if Vrabel can fully regain his usual focus and command within the organization.
