Xavi is going through one of the hardest days of his professional life.
Joan Laporta informed him earlier today that he was dismissing him and that he won’t be Barcelona coach next season. The Catalan coach wanted to say goodbye to the azulgrana family in a statement that he posted on his social networks, in which he expressed his gratitude to everyone, including the azulgrana president.
Xavi’s farewell
“Dear Culs. On Sunday my time on the Bara bench will come to an end. It is never easy to leave the club of your life, but I do it very proud, after two and a half years at the head of a dressing room that has been like a second family,” he wrote.
“I want to thank the support and affection of the fans, who have always been by my side and have shown me at all times the same esteem as in my time as a footballer. From Sunday onwards I will be one more Cul in the stands, either now at the Estadi Olmpic or in a few months at the New Camp Nou. Because before being a player or a coach, I am a Barcelonista and I only want the best for the club of my life, which will always have me at its disposal.
“I have worked with a fantastic group of players and a spectacular staff. Thanks to all of them we have been achieving our goals, culminating last season with a league title and a Super Cup. This season things have not turned out the way we wanted, but we have given our all and we have helped a new generation of young players from La Masia to grow and they are exciting all of us Barcelonistas.
“Thank you very much to everyone. To the fans, the players, the staff, the club’s employees, the President, the Board of Directors, the sporting directors, the media and everyone with whom I have shared the journey during these two and a half seasons.
“I wish the best for the club that I carry in my heart. Visca el Bara“.
