Stephen Curry and Ayesha’s fourth child’s name causes debate: What does Caius Chai mean?

Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry have welcomed their fourth child into the world but fans are very confused by the name that they have chosen for the newborn.

The NBA star has been winning on and off of the court and he now has four children with Ayesha and the couple are clearly thrilled to grow their family.

They opted to name their new child Caius Chai, which has raised eyebrows considering the names of their other three children don’t raise too many eyebrows: Riley, Ryan and Canon.

The Golden State Warriors player announced the new baby on Instagram with the post being captioned: “Our sweet baby boy decided to make an early arrival!! He’s doing great and we are finally settling in at home as a family of 6! So grateful! Caius Chai 5/11/24”.

What does Caius Chai mean?

Fans have been quick to try and work out what the name means and why the couple may have chosen it. It is not uncommon for celebrities to choose outlandish names for their offspring, but with the other children’s names in mind, Caius Chai does stand out.

“Caius” has a Latin origin and means “rejoice”. As for “Chai,” its origins can be traced back to the Hebrew language and means “life”.

The name Caius can be seen in some of William Shakespeare‘s work, but it also shows up in the Twilight series with Caius being the name of a member of the Volturi, one of the most powerful vampire covens. It seems implausible, though, that they named their child partly after the Twilight books.
