The Kansas City Chiefs may have given Rashee Rice a vote of confidence as the wide receiver travelled to the White House with the team, despite being under investigation for a serious car accident in Texas in the offseason.
Rice was racing a Lamborghini Urus in Dallas, but lost control of his vehicle and damaged four cars around him before fleeing a season after hitting a wall. The 23-year-old later admitted his involvement and took full responsibility after speaking with local law enforcement,
The police issued an arrest warrant for one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injuries.
Either way, that’s left the Chiefs and NFL closely monitoring the situation to decide how they handle the Super Bowl champion if he is charged with the offenses with suspensions being an option for both organizations if he is in breach of policy.
Despite that, he did travel with the team to meet president Joe Biden at the White House for his role in winning Super Bowl LVIII at the Allegiant Stadium in February, in what could be a vote of confidence as he posed with the Chiefs’ owner’s wife and daughters.
It could be taken as a sign that the front office and executives are willing to back him, or stand by him, so his NFL contract might not be ripped up on the Chiefs’ end of things although he is still only training at the sidelines so the exact nature of his involvement with the franchise is unclear.
Rice cleared of a separate assault
After the car crash, Rice‘s legal troubles continued to get worse as a photographer alleged the receiver assaulted him in the early hours of a morning outside of a Dallas club, with the police announcing he was under investigation before they later decided to not press charges.
Then on May 21, the victim announced they would not be pressing charges either after two people said that there was a verbal altercation, but Rice did not actually touch the photographer in question, although the photographer did have “non-life-threatening” injuries at the scene.
Whilst nothing came of this one, it shows the youngster is finding it tough to stay out of the headlines for all of the wrong reasons at the moment, giving the Chiefs and NFL quite the headache to deal with.
