Brittany Mahomes has publicly supported rookie Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. Mahomes, 28, took to Instagram Stories on Sunday, June 2, to express her encouragement following an incident in which Clark, 22, was pushed to the ground by an opponent during a game against the Chicago Sky on Saturday, June 1.
In her message, Mahomes praised Clark’s performance and resilience. “@caitlinclark22 keep doing your thing!!” she wrote. “You’re a baller and it’s incredible to see what you’re doing for the game and women’s sports!!”
The incident in question involved Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter, who, during a play, shoulder-checked and hip-checked Clark without provocation, causing Clark to fall. Initially, officials called it an away-from-the-ball foul and did not review the play. However, the WNBA later upgraded the foul to a flagrant-1 violation after a review.
Despite the upgraded foul, Carter, 25, avoided further penalties such as fines or suspension, according to Fox News.
Clark addressed the incident in a post-game interview on Saturday. Reflecting on the play, she said, “I wasn’t expecting it. It is what it is. It’s a physical game. Go make the free throw and execute on offense, and I feel like that’s kind of what we did.”
Christie Sides commended Caitlin Clark
Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides commended Clark for her composure and professionalism. “[Clark] got up and kept playing. All she did was ask the officials to review it. They didn’t want to listen to it. I applaud her for how she handled it last night,” Sides remarked in the same post-game interview.
Clark‘s ability to maintain focus and continue performing despite the incident has garnered admiration from fans and fellow athletes alike, with Brittany Mahomes’ supportive message further highlighting the sense of solidarity within the sports community.
