Is the Diggs-Allen bromance still alive? The wide receiver opens up about new beginnings with Texans

Stefon Diggs, now with the Houston Texans, opened up about his relationship with his former Buffalo Bills quarterback, Josh Allen.

Despite the trade that sent him to Houston, Diggs emphasized that his bond with Allen remains strong and significant.

Diggs: Josh is still my guy

“He was an intricate piece of my career,” Diggs said of Allen.

“When I left Minnesota, I was a good player. But I always felt more for myself. I felt like I was better than that – that I could be better than that. And kind of up to that point, I was just like ‘S-. I’m going to roll the dice and bet on myself.'”

Reflecting on his time in Buffalo, Diggs acknowledged the important role Allen played in his career.

“When I got to Buffalo, Josh was and still is my guy. People don’t really understand what it’s like to be out there. He really embraced me. He kind of had that southern hospitality. We spent a lot of time together and I probably wouldn’t be right here if it wasn’t for him. I got a lot of love for that boy, so y’all give him a hug and a kiss for me.”

The trade from Buffalo to Houston came after a season filled with speculation about Diggs’ future with the Bills.

Tensions were visible during the Bills’ playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, where Diggs and Allen had a heated exchange on the sidelines.

Although Diggs later downplayed the incident, calling it “water under the bridge,” rumors persisted throughout the season.

In Buffalo, Diggs enjoyed four productive years, surpassing his stats from his time with the Minnesota Vikings.

In the 2023 season, he caught 107 passes for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns, helping the Bills secure an 11-6 record before they were eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.

Texans expect immediate impact from Diggs

Upon his arrival in Houston, Diggs received a new contract, securing his place in the Texans’ roster for the 2024 season.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans expressed optimism about Diggs’ contribution to the team.

“What I’ve seen is a guy who I thought we would get,” Ryans said.

“A guy who’s made plays and every time we’ve thrown him the ball, he’s come down with it. Sure-handed guy. A really good teammate, a great energy around the building and in a locker room with the guys. So I’m excited to continue to see his growth.”

Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud also praised Diggs for his leadership and teamwork.

“He’s been fitting in great. He’s come in with his head down and just working,”Stroud said.

“He’s helping me out a lot. … He’s come in and been a leader, which I’m proud of him for. He’s really been unselfish and wanted to see other guys eat. That was his main thing — he wanted to be around other dogs. He stepped into that role where there’s a dog everywhere. He wanted that and that’s what we bring to the table.”

The Houston Texans open up the 2024 regular season against the Indianapolis Colts on September 8th.
