Former NFL star Chandler Jones’ fate decided in domestic violence case

Chandler Jones, former NFL edge rusher, received a suspended 90-day jail sentence on June 17, following two domestic violence charges from last fall. According to Taylor Lane of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Jones can avoid jail time provided he remains out of legal trouble and follows Family Court orders concerning contact with the victim.

Jones‘s legal situation took a turn when he entered a no contest plea, resulting in the dismissal of one domestic violence charge. This plea deal has allowed him to sidestep a more severe punishment, Lane reported.

Jones‘s troubles date back to last year when he left the Las Vegas Raiders abruptly during Labor Day weekend after posting a series of disturbing messages on social media. The Raiders placed him on the non-football illness list on September 20 and released him 10 days later, following his arrest for violating a domestic violence protective order.

Jones’ legal troubles continued to pile up

The issues did not end there, as Jones faced another arrest in October for a similar violation. On February 5, he pleaded not guilty to two charges of violating the protective order.

In a statement made in February, Jones mentioned that he was “feeling much better,” indicating efforts towards personal improvement.

Jones’s release from the Raiders occurred during the second year of his three-year, $51 million contract, with the team citing conduct detrimental to the organization as the reason for his departure.
