The 2024 NBA Draft is imminent, and the top NBA prospects from around the world will learn where their professional careers might begin. For Bronny James, the wait has presented unique challenges that have not impacted other prospects.
Bronny, the oldest son of NBA legend LeBron James, has been touted as a “can’t-miss” prospect since high school, but his lone season in the NCAA created question marks around his viability as a pro. As a teenager, Bronny is plugged in to the discourse surrounding him — and as his agent has recently revealed, the 19-year-old is doing his best to stay grounded on the eve of the biggest night of his life.
Bronny just wants an NBA opportunity
Rich Paul, LeBron‘s longtime representative, recently appeared on former NBA star Gilbert Arenas‘ podcast, and he revealed Bronny’s biggest hope for draft night — a revelation that could surprise some ardent fans.
According to Paul, Bronny told him “I just want to hear my name called” on draft night — whether it is during Wednesday’s first round or Thursday’s second round, as the draft becomes a two-night broadcast event for the first time.
Bronny’s draft process has been tightly controlled by Paul and his agency, Klutch Sports. Some teams have been rebuffed in their efforts to bring in Bronny for a workout before the draft, with many speculating that Paul and LeBron are “doing their part” to ensure LeBron’s Los Angeles Lakers select him with one of their two picks in this draft.
Opinion over Bronny’s game remains divided. The guard has flashed potential as a good defender and a 3-point shooter, but others point to his difficulty finding minutes for USC last season, as well as his modest per-game statistics. From Bronny’s perspective, the first step toward removing those doubts is to get drafted — and then excel from the jump.
