LeBron James doesn’t want top Bronny in Summer League for a reason

LeBron James‘ son Bronny recently participated in his first game with the Lakers during the California Classic Summer League, scoring four points in a loss to the Sacramento Kings. The four-time NBA champion set realistic expectations for his son’s debut, emphasizing that his primary objective is for Bronny to gain more experience and exposure.

He stressed the importance of Bronny playing more minutes, competing against other professionals, and dedicating time to watching game footage and practicing, all to foster his development.

In his debut, Bronny played 21 minutes, scoring four points on two of nine field goal attempts. Despite a challenging game from a scoring perspective, where he missed all three of his 3-point shots and his two free throws, Bronny also managed to record two rebounds and two assists. He finished the game with a -15 plus-minus rating.

“I just hope [he] just gets his feet wet in the NBA – the pace of the game, the speed of the game, the physicality of the game,” James said.

“But what he does in the California Classic and Summer League, it doesn’t matter if he plays well and it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t play well.

“I just want him to continue to grow. Practices, film sessions, his individual workouts. You can’t take anything stat-wise from the California Classic and Summer League and bring it once the season starts. The only thing that matters is him getting better and stacking days.

“He missed a big part of the season last year because of the incident less than a year ago. So, he’s behind as far as where he would have been if he would have played a full season obviously.”
