The final of the Copa America 2024, between Colombia and Argentina, was tarnished by violence and chaos at the entrances of the Hard Rock Stadium after thousands of fans collapsed the entrances to the building, which delayed the start of the game by an hour and a half.

Miami authorities were overwhelmed by a large number of Argentina and Colombia fans, so the mayor of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine-Cava, pointed out that the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) was the organization responsible for guaranteeing the security of the event, something that did not happen.
After a silence that lasted several hours, Conmebol issued an official statement through its official website, where it dissociated itself from the incidents at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
“CONMEBOL was subject to the decisions made by the Hard Rock Stadium authorities, in accordance with the contractual responsibilities established for the security operation.”
Miami ignored CONMEBOL recommendations
The South American soccer regulatory body assured that, given the experience in high-risk games, a series of recommendations were made, which Conmebol claims were not taken into account by the Miami authorities.
“CONMEBOL recommended to said authorities the proven procedures in events of this magnitude, which were NOT taken into account“.
The organization regretted that these incidents of violence tarnished the final that Argentina won 1-0 against Colombia since this Copa America set records for entries and congratulated the more than 42,000 collaborators who were part of the organization of the tournament.
“We regret that acts of violence produced by malicious people have tarnished a final that was set to be a great celebration of sport.“
