Cronos (CRO) to Upgrade Mainnet to V1.3 at Block Height 14,920,000

According to Cronos (CRO), the blockchain platform is set to upgrade its mainnet to version 1.3 at block height 14,920,000. The upgrade is expected to occur around July 18, 2024, at approximately 7:00 AM GMT (3:00 PM HKT/SGT), although this timing may vary based on block generation progress.

Key Details of the Upgrade

The Cronos Mainnet V1.3 upgrade will introduce several enhancements, including improvements to backward compatibility and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) functionalities. The network downtime is estimated to be about 60 minutes, contingent on the progress of validators during the upgrade process.

All Cronos services, including the mainnet network, public RPC, explorer, and Cronos bridge, will resume operation once the upgrade is completed.

Impact on End Users

End users should note that the proposed upgrade date is July 18, 2024, with the upgrade occurring at block height 14,920,000. The expected time for this block can be checked here.

Following the upgrade block height, all node operators must update their node binaries to maintain synchronization with the chain. The chain will temporarily halt and restart with all data retained once most validators complete their upgrades.

Guidelines for Node Operators

Node operators should prepare for the upgrade at block height 14,920,000 by following the guidelines to update to the latest cronosd binary, version 1.3.0. It is crucial not to upgrade before the target block height, as the v1.3 binary is incompatible before this point.

For any questions or feedback regarding the upgrade, node operators are encouraged to reach out to the team via the #cronos-mainnet channel on the Cronos Discord server.

This upgrade is a significant step for Cronos as it aims to enhance the overall performance and functionality of its blockchain network.
