The Los Angeles Rams have successfully restructured quarterback Matthew Stafford’s contract, ensuring his commitment to the team ahead of the 2024 regular season.
Amid a wave of players across the NFL holding out for new deals, the Rams and Stafford managed to avoid any disruptions by agreeing to a revised financial arrangement.

Stafford’s contract runs through until 2026
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Stafford’s adjusted contract will grant him an additional $5 million upfront in 2024, with his 2025 roster bonus increasing from $5 million to $9 million.
This adjustment brings more immediate financial benefits to Stafford while keeping his four-year, $160 million deal, originally signed in 2022, intact through the 2026 season.
Stafford, 36, had communicated his desire for more guaranteed money following the Super Bowl victory he helped secure for the Rams.
With only $15 million in guaranteed money left on his deal before the adjustment, Stafford appeared ready to either hold out or limit his participation to individual drills as the Rams’ training camp began last Tuesday.
The agreement reached last week allowed Stafford to join the camp without distractions.
“Listen, I’m happy to be where I am, you know what I mean?”Stafford remarked after the deal was finalized.
“I’m happy to be here, I’m happy to be playing. I’m excited about playing football this year and that’s what matters to me the most, to be honest.”

Rams head coach Sean McVay expressed his appreciation for Stafford’s professionalism throughout the negotiation process.
“I was grateful that we were able to get the solution and I was also grateful for a lot of the dialogue that was able to exist,” McVay said.
“…I am relieved that it got done and I think in the manner at which it occurred was also healthy for everybody involved. And ultimately I’m excited for this team.”
Stafford is coming off a strong 2023 season, where he threw for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 15 games, leading the Rams to the playoffs.
As he enters the latter stages of his career, the 36-year-old remains driven to chase another Super Bowl ring with Los Angeles this season.
With the contract dispute resolved, both Stafford and the Rams can now focus on the upcoming season, aiming to build on last year’s success and make another deep playoff run.
