A little more than a week ago, CeeDee Lamb set the internet alight with a cryptic Instagram Stories upload that sparked significant intrigue amid the wide receiver’s holdout. At the time, Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys seemed far apart in contract talks, and it was uncertain whether the two sides could come to an agreement before Week 1 of the 2024 season.
Fortunately for the Cowboys — and for Lamb — the two sides have since agreed on a four-year, $136 million contract. The All-Pro wideout will receive a whopping $100 million guaranteed as well as a record $38 million signing bonus — and now he has to explain why he posted a still image of Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man putting on his black Symbiote Suit.
Lamb is out for “vengeance”
It didn’t always seem like Lamb and the Cowboys would finalize an agreement before the receiver entered his contract year, and the player himself fanned the fames of speculation by posting that still from the famed Symbiote Suit sequence in “Spider-Man 3” (2007). With Lamb available to the media again now that his contract has been finalized, the NFL‘s reigning receptions leader got to explain what he meant.
“He’s entering his villain arc (at that point in the film) and I’m coming back for vengeance,” Lamb said of his “favorite” superhero.
Lamb said Tuesday that there is “no question” he’ll be ready to face the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 8, with the Cowboys opening the season against one of the NFL’s top defenses from 2023. Now that the former Oklahoma Sooner‘s contract is done, Lamb will hope Dak Prescott can agree on an extension of his own — ensuring the Cowboys’ most potent offensive weapons remain in Dallas for years to come.
