Patrick Mahomes handed the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ Dylan Raiola an affectionate nickname as the NCAA quarterback continues to mimic the Kansas City Chiefs‘ star on and off the football field.
Raiola, also a quarterback, has made no secret of his admiration of Mahomes and he aims to become the next iteration of the triple Super Bowl champion by copying his style of play and even his looks, as he bids to become his understudy at the Arrowhead Stadium.
And he starred once again in the Cornhuskers‘ 40-7 win against the UTEP Miners with an exceptional 59-yard touchdown pass with the score at 9-7 to channel his inner Mahomes with the Hail Mary effort on August 31.
The play attracted a lot of attention as he went on to throw for 238 yards and 19 completions from 27 attempts, for two touchdowns including from the Kansas City Chiefs‘ star who gave him a new nickname.
“Lil cuzzo!!.” Mahomes posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, quote tweeting a video of the play broadcast by FOX Sports, and uploaded by Bleacher Report as Isiah Neyor in the 18 jersey completed the play.
Fans naturally loved the interaction and flooded to the comments to react to the Kansas City Chiefs’ legend’s post.
One user posted, “SuperBowl champ got his eyes on the land of corn! GBR!!”
Whilst a second added, “Mahomes being an unc [uncle] is what I needed today.”
And a third commented, “Minin Mahomes!!!”
When do the Nebraska Cornhuskers play next?
Up next is a very tough test at the Memorial Stadium in Nebraska as the Cornhuskers welcome Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes on September 7 at 18:30 PT/21:30 ET, in a game broadcast by ESPN.
The Buffaloes, with their own star quarterback in the form of Shedeur Sanders, won their opening game of the Big 12 Conference by defeating the North Dakota State Bisons 31-26 on August 29.
