Liverpool turned Old Trafford into the ‘Theater of Nightmares’ after a resounding 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
The result and match was one sided and leaves the ‘Red Devils’ and their coach, Erik Ten Hag, in quite some trouble. United never got out of the blocks, failing to show creativity in the final third and a lack of defensive forcefulness that, coupled with a lack of fighting spirit, proved their undoing against the Reds.
Casemiro made headlines for all the wrong reasons with his performances, as two mistakes led to the first two goals for the visitors. He was substituted at halftime and his suitability at this level of football will once again be questioned.
Where Casemiro falters, Diaz and Sarah shine
The other side of the coin were Luis Diaz and Salah, who tormented the United defense throughout the match. Both men put in a sparkling performance, with their form showing that if they stay fit and healthy, Liverpool will be in the title mix.
The first half started with a rather low tempo and no chances. Liverpool tried to generate something in attack, but with little success. Meanwhile, United were unable to get close to Alisson’s goal and the game became an accumulation of mistakes that showed how early in the season we are.
However, two goals from Luis Diaz after two Casemiro turnovers and another from Salah at the start of the second half made it 3-0. It could have been more, but the lack of accuracy in the final third spared United from an even greater defeat on home soil.
