Alex Morgan, one of the most iconic figures in women’s football and the USWNT, has ended her brilliant career. The American forward played her last minutes as a professional in the match between the San Diego Wave and the North Carolina Courage, where she received an emotional tribute from her teammates, coaching staff and fans.

Alex Morgan’s ‘Last Dance’ was filled with emotion at a ceremony hosted by her last team. The historic #13 only played 13 minutes before meeting her teammates at midfield, taking off her cleats and saying goodbye to the 26,000 fans at the Snapdragon Stadium who cheered her on.

The farewell could have been extra special she had a chance to score on a penalty kick, but the forward missed it at the 10th minute. The opposing goalkeeper managed to deflect it.

Alex Morgan’s legacy

Alex Morgan played 224 games for the United States Women’s National Team, winning the Gold Medal at the 2012 London Olympics and two World Cups in 2015 and 2019, where she scored 123 goals.

The Californian rounded out her numbers with her retirement, as it was her 200th match at club level and her 150th in the NWSL, where she scored on 60 occasions. She signed for San Diego Wave in 2020, the clubs first year, here she scored 28 goals in 63 games. She won a Supporters Shield for finishing in first place overall in a league year and an NWSL Cup.

She will leave the sport after announcing that she is pregnant at 35 years old. She is married to the former player of Mexican roots, Servando Carrasco, and they have already a daughter together.
