49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall celebrates birthday with the heroes who saved his life after being shot

Ricky Pearsall, Rookie wide receiver, celebrated more than just his 24th birthday during the San Francisco 49ers‘ Monday night home opener against the New York Jets-it was a moment of deep gratitude and recognition, honoring the very people who helped save his life.

Less than 10 days earlier, Pearsall was shot in the chest at Union Square in a harrowing incident that left his football future uncertain. But thanks to the quick actions of Sergeant Joelle Harrell and Dr. Lucy Kornblith, who were among the first responders to provide life-saving care, Pearsall stood strong on the field at Levi’s Stadium, alive and grateful for his second chance.

A heartfelt tribute: Pearsall and his heroes shine

Pearsall, who was placed on the non-football injury list and isn’t active for the season opener, has still been a visible presence at practice and on the sidelines. On Monday night, he stepped into the spotlight for a heartwarming tribute alongside Harrell and Kornblith, who were honored as the 49ers’ Frontline Heroes of the Game. The crowd at Levi’s Stadium erupted in cheers as the two first responders walked onto the field, greeted by a beaming Pearsall.

In an emotional gesture, Pearsall presented them with an autographed jersey, a small token of his immense gratitude. The pair were also gifted an autographed 49ers helmet, a nod to their heroic efforts in overseeing the rookie’s care during such a critical time.

For Pearsall, the moment was about more than football. It was a powerful display of appreciation between San Francisco’s first-round pick and the heroes who helped him get to his birthday-a moment the stadium recognized with roaring applause. Despite the adversity he’s faced in the past week, Pearsall’s presence at the game is a testament to his resilience and determination to return to the sport he loves.

As the stadium celebrated the night, Pearsall celebrated life with those who made it possible.
