Derrick White, NBA Star, caught in heated altercation at Colorado State rivalry game

Boston Celtics player Derrick White found himself at the center of an altercation during the intense University of Colorado vs. Colorado State football game this past Saturday. White, a former University of Colorado standout, attended the game in Fort Collins to cheer on his Buffaloes, but the day took a violent turn as tempers flared with rival fans.

Witnesses at the game reported that everything seemed to be going smoothly for White in the first half. Dressed in CU gear and seated among Colorado State (CSU) fans, White was simply enjoying the rivalry matchup. However, tensions began to rise when the Buffaloes, led by Deion Sanders, took control of the game in the third quarter. Verbal exchanges between White and some Rams fans escalated quickly, and then things turned physical.

In a video obtained by TMZ Sports, a CSU fan wearing a Utah shirt was seen throwing a backfist that struck White on the side of his head. The force of the hit knocked off White’s hat and quickly sparked a brawl between multiple attendees. Though White was pulled from the scuffle swiftly, several fans continued pushing and shoving, with some resorting to headlocks before law enforcement intervened.

Quick response prevents further escalation

Thanks to quick action from security, the fight was broken up before it could worsen. White was seen walking away from the situation, heading toward nearby stairs. Although there was no immediate word from White’s representatives, local law enforcement confirmed that no police report was filed regarding the incident.

White’s Stellar summer casts a shadow on the incident

Derrick White had been enjoying an incredible summer prior to this incident. After helping the Boston Celtics win an NBA title in June, he continued his success by contributing to Team USA’s gold medal victory at the Olympics in August. While Saturday’s skirmish certainly put a damper on his weekend, White’s focus remains on the upcoming NBA season.

No official word has been released from White’s camp, but fans of both the Celtics and CU will be hoping this unfortunate incident won’t affect his mindset as he prepares for another season of basketball success.
