There is likely no more disappointing team in the NFL than the Dallas Cowboys. After so much success before the turn of the millennium, the team has been stuck in neutral for decades. Despite constant regular season success, playoff wins have eluded Jerry Jones as he has cycled through several different head coaches.
Through two games in 2024, the team is already under fire from fans. A blowout at the hands of the New Orleans Saints has head coach Mike McCarthy and the entire front office dealing with harsh criticism. Jones in particular is getting criticized left and right, as fans believe he didn’t do close to enough during the offseason to fortify the roster. No more is that apparent than at running back.

Jerry Jones is happy with performance of Cowboys running backs
As pressure ramps up, Jones came out to defend his running back room of Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn.
A few of the media have gotten out here and written some stories early about how we needed a running back in the draft or how we need a running back, and they’re trying to cover their you-know-what as we go through the season.
Jones is seemingly thrilled with the performance of Elliott, Dowdle and Vaughn (who has chipped in with five carries). This comes despite the fact that the team is currently second-to-worst in the league in terms of rushing yards over expectation.
Not only are the RBs not taking what’s blocked in front of them, they’re actively losing yards in situations that should be positive.
The Cowboys chose to avoid the position in the draft despite having the opportunity in several rounds. They also made no moves in free agency other than re-signing Zeke, who is nearly 30 years old and is a shell of his former All-Pro self.
