Trinity Rodman suffers troubling back injury and is taken off in wheelchair

Washington Spirit suffered a massive blow in their NWSL match against the Kansas City Current as star play Trinity Rodman was forced off the field with a concerning injury.

It was a crucial game for the second-placed Washington team but they were dealt a reality check after losing 3-0 against the hosts who are now in third place, just two points behind them.

Ahead of the game, the Spirit were looking in front rather than over their shoulders, knowing that a win would close the gap on leaders Orlando Pride, but the day did not go as planned.

The day went from bad to worse for the Washington outfit when a key member of their team, USWNT star Trinity Rodman, had to be taken off the field in a wheelchair after a bad-looking injury.

Rodman tried to walk off the pitch but was unable to do so, even with the help of two physios, which is why the wheelchair was needed to escort her to the medical room.

The coach of the spirit, Jonatan Giraldez, said after the game that the problem appears to be with Rodman‘s back, although further tests will be needed to confirm the severity of the blow.

While the defeat is a huge blow, there is still plenty left to play for in what remains of the campaign and the Spirit will be hoping that Rodman will be back to take on future challenges.

Rodman looked distraught as she left the field, despite the loud chants of support from the home faithful.

It now remains to be seen how long Rodman will be out for, although Giraldez will be eager for her to come back soon, especially as they also suffered a red card in that match, with Lena Silano sent off deep into injury time.
