Buffalo Bills lose Von Miller amid NFL suspension

Buffalo Bills defensive star Von Miller has been suspended for four games without pay following a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy, the league announced on Tuesday.

The suspension comes at a challenging time for the Bills, just days after a tough loss to the Baltimore Ravens, as the team prepares to face several competitive matchups without their veteran pass rusher.

Why is Von Miller suspended?

Miller, 35, will miss the Bills’ next four games, including key clashes with the Houston Texans, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, and Seattle Seahawks.

He will be eligible to return in Week 9, when Buffalo hosts AFC East rival Miami Dolphins.

The suspension stems from allegations of a domestic incident involving Miller’s pregnant girlfriend in November 2023.

The incident occurred during the Bills’ bye week, and Miller turned himself in to Texas authorities on Nov. 30.

While Miller has denied the allegations, calling them “100% false,” an investigation by the NFL proceeded independently of any criminal charges.

According to an affidavit, Miller was accused of physical assault, with evidence of minor injuries observed by police.

Despite these claims, no formal charges were filed, and Miller publicly addressed the situation in December, expressing his desire for the truth to come out.

Bills taking action amid Von Miller’s absence

Miller’s absence will undoubtedly affect the Bills’ defensive strategy.

Known for his ability to disrupt opposing offenses, Miller has recorded three sacks this season after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for much of 2022.

His performance so far has been a bright spot for the Bills, contributing to their strong 3-1 start.

However, with this suspension, Buffalo will now have to rely on its depth, particularly defensive end Greg Rousseau and newly signed defensive tackle Zion Logue, a recent addition from the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.

Miller’s suspension comes as a blow not just to the Bills’ defensive line but also to Miller’s personal trajectory.

He recently passed Hall of Famer Dwight Freeney on the all-time sack list, tying with another Hall of Famer, Derrick Thomas, for 25th with 125.5 career sacks.

Despite this setback, Miller’s career is still expected to culminate in a Hall of Fame induction in Canton, Ohio.

As the Bills prepare for their next stretch of games without one of their defensive cornerstones, fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how they adapt amid Miller’s suspension.
