Rashee Rice accident victims hope Chiefs star’s injury will settle lawsuit

Two plaintiffs suing the Kansas City Chiefs’ Rashee Rice hope that they will be able to settle their cases for damages following his car crash in Texas, now the wide receiver drops to the injured reserve list.

The 24-year-old sustained a knee injury during his team’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers and is officially out of commission until at least week eight of the 2024/25 NFL season in another blow for Patrick Mahomes.

But now Edvard Petrovskiy and Irina Gromova hope that the absence will speed along their legal case against Rice as they sue for compensation following his car crash in Dallas in March 2024, when he and an accomplice lost control of their sports cars whilst speeding downtown.

In documents filed to court, both claimants said they sustained brain trauma, internal bleeding, injuries to their face and superficial damage such as bruising as they demand $10m dollars to make amends.

And although the case isn’t due to begin until June 2025 and Rice hasn’t had a deposition yet, their attorney, Sanjay Mathur, hopes things will now pick up pace as the youngster sits on the sidelines.

“We are saddened to hear about Rashee Rice’s injury on the football field and hope for his quick recovery,” Mathur said to TMZ Sports. “We recognize that injuries can significantly impact one’s life, causing both physical pain and mental distress.

“They disrupt routines, hobbies, daily chores, and activities. Injuries often lead to medical procedures and bills, and they can hinder one’s ability to earn a living.”

“We are struck by the fact that Rice was injured at a time when the plaintiffs in our case against him are seeking justice for their own injuries.

“We hope that these recent developments will foster empathy, a resolve to seek resolution, and, most importantly, an acceptance of responsibility toward the injured parties in our case.”

What is Rice’s injury and when will he be back?

Rashee Rice suffered a knee injury against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, September 29 at the SoFi Stadium when he attempted to recover a pick from Mahomes, only for the quarterback to charge into his leg as he also defended the counter-play.

He will undergo a knee procedure between October 7-13 to determine the impact of the damage but since he is on the injured reserve, he faces at least four games on the sideline.

That means if he is back at the earliest possible opportunity, which seems unlikely, he will only step onto the field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, November 4.
