Did Deshaun Watson give up mid-game? Browns struggles worsen amid controversy

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson left fans and analysts puzzled after a controversial moment during the team’s 34-13 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Why did Watson walk off the field?

Watson’s struggles on the field have been a focal point of frustration, and a mid-game decision raised even more concerns about his leadership.

With the Browns down 24-6 and facing a critical 4th-and-goal in the third quarter, Watson opted to walk toward the sideline with 15 seconds remaining on the play clock.

This baffling move resulted in a delay of game penalty, forcing Cleveland to settle for a field goal instead of potentially narrowing the gap with a touchdown.

Cleveland Browns continue to struggle under Watson

This incident was just one of many perplexing moments in the Browns’ brutal loss.

Watson, who passed for only 125 yards-the fewest in any of his last two seasons-was sacked seven times.

His sole touchdown pass came late in the fourth quarter when Cleveland was already down by 28 points.

The Browns’ offensive struggles continued as they failed to score more than 20 points for the fifth consecutive game.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski addressed the situation following the game but stood by his quarterback.

“We’re not changing quarterbacks,” Stefanski said, signaling the team’s commitment to Watson despite the ongoing difficulties.

Watson’s inability to lead the offense has been a growing concern.

Entering Week 5, Watson had a league-low 23.6 quarterback rating, and after Sunday’s performance, his struggles have deepened.

Cleveland’s high hopes for Watson, who was signed to one of the richest contracts in NFL history, have yet to be realized.
