Taylor Swift will attend the Kansas City Chiefs’ clash with the New Orleans Saints meaning fans can expect to see the popstar on their televisions this October 7 again, but will she boost Travis Kelce’s form?
The 35-year-old tight end has struggled to get into the swing of things through the start of the 2024/25 NFL season and has only made 158 receiving yards through four games 15 receptions, for zero touchdowns.
But he burst back into his typical stride in Week 4 by finishing with 89 yards from seven receptions (nine targets) as he and Patrick Mahomes reignited their chemistry against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 29.
Whilst Kelce has been off-color compared to previous seasons, sparking fears he has hit the age wall as well as cutting a very frustrated and isolated figure within the Chiefs’ offense, he can’t solely be blamed due to only 21 targets.
“I mean it’s crazy, the respect factor they have for Travis is just unreal,” Mahomes told reporters after defeating the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. “It’s well-deserved but we’re calling a lot of plays for Travis and it’s like two or three people are going to him.
“He understands. I think that’s the great thing about him is he wants to make an impact in the game but he wants to win at the end of the day. I’m going to try to do my best to keep feeding him the ball whenever he’s there, whenever he’s open.”
On that basis, rivals have simply done a very good job of shutting the 6ft 3in triple Super Bowl champion out of the game with nobody particularly to blame as Mahomes looked for freer options in Rashee Rice, until the 24-year-old landed himself on the injured reserve list.
But now Kelce is poised for his most volume of the season against the Saints with Rice, Isiah Pacheco and Hollywood Brown all injured whilst Clyde Edwards-Helaire is unlikely to be active meaning the 35-year-old is essentially the only senior receiver left.
What time is Saints vs Chiefs?
With Taylor Swift confirmed by Kelce to be in attendance at the Arrowhead Stadium this October 7 for Monday Night Football, will she turn out to be his good luck charm and will he bag his first touchdown of the campaign?
