Ezekiel Elliott unhappy with his role with Cowboys: Jerry Jones gives him a wake-up call

Ezekiel Elliott‘s return to the Dallas Cowboys has not been as successful as expected, as he has had limited playing time and very little impact on the team’s offense, so he himself said he was surprised by what is happening with the way they are involving him and after Sunday Night’s victory in Pittsburgh, Elliott himself revealed to the press that he sought out his coaches and the front office to ask him what his role was with the team, since he did not even intervene in the short yardage plays or to provide additional protection to Dak Prescott.

On Sunday, Elliott had just six carries for 17 yards and was thrown a pass that he could not catch. In total, he has just 98 yards on 30 carries, one of them for a touchdown, in addition to six receptions for 36 yards.

The Oklahoma State graduate has already revealed the situation, although he clarified that he did not do it to generate any controversy inside the locker room, he gave the details to avoid any speculation, while the team’s own manager, Jerry Jones gave more details of the talk this Friday during his participation in his radio show on 105.3 The Fan and clarified that the limited work is due, rather, to the fact that they are “saving it for the long term”.

“I can’t emphasize this enough: we’re saving it,” Jones said . “And we should be. We want it because Rico [Dowdle] is an outstanding runner [but] his big problem has been, what? He’s had injury problems throughout his career. So it would be crazy to rely solely on him for the entire season and into the playoffs.”

Elliott said Thursday that he had “talked a little bit” with the Cowboys staff about his limited participation with the team and said he would “let things work themselves out”. The former All-Pro reiterated his desire for more playing time, mainly for short yardage situations and admitted that “it’s definitely a little different” to be on the sidelines of the team’s offense, because after having a more active role in the first two games, in the next four he barely adds 20 carries.

“I’m just focusing on being a good teammate,” Elliott said. “I’ve been focusing on continuing to help lead this team and I’m not doing it for me. It’s about this football team winning games,” he clarified.

When is Dalvin Cook going to make his debut?

Another of the big questions facing the Texans is the debut of one of the big reinforcements acquired in free agency: Dalvin Cook, the former Minnesota Vikings star who has been on the practice squad since August.

In this regard, Jones clarified that his role in the team will be something “very valuable in the future”, but he did not give any timetable about his possible presentation with the team, in order to make what at the beginning of the season would have been a fearsome ground attack, together with Elliott and Dowdle.
