The NBA season kicks off today with two games, one on each coast, and both promise to be highly entertaining. First up is the TD Garden, where the reigning champion Boston Celtics host the New York Knicks. These two teams finished first and second in the Eastern Conference last season and are strong contenders to make the playoffs this year. Following that, the Western Conference runners-up, the Minnesota Timberwolves, will visit the Los Angeles Lakers, where LeBron James and his son, Bronny, will take the court together. Bronny’s highly anticipated debut is scheduled for today.
Lebron wants to stop Bronny’s debut
With the Lakers game just hours away, LeBron released a Nike commercial in which he doesn’t seem to want Bronny to make it to the arena for his debut. LeBron, being the 39-year-old kid that he is, filled Bronny’s car with cereal as he headed to the game himself. Teasing Bronny with the comment, “Hey, Rook, better not be late,” LeBron jokes as he leaves to get ready at the Crypto.com Arena. But like a good dad, he doesn’t forget to add, “Hey, clean up my driveway, it’s a mess.”
This just goes to show that LeBron is the most excited to share the court with his son – and who wouldn’t be? I know that Bronny won’t play more than 7-10 minutes unless it’s a blowout or he starts lighting it up and scoring from all over, which he didn’t do in Summer League or the preseason. Regardless of the outcome of the game, Bronny and LeBron are going to make history and all we can do is watch and hope for their success – at least that’s what I’m going to do because I know there are a lot of Bron haters out there.
Bronny’s best option is the G-league
Considering his performance in the Summer League and the preseason, it’s clear that Bronny is still finding his footing in the NBA. He’s struggling to score and seems to lack confidence. The immense pressure of being LeBron James‘ son is undoubtedly weighing on him. While it’s a challenging situation, it’s important for Bronny to develop at his own pace. Spending time with the South Bay Lakers in the G-League could be beneficial for his growth, as many NBA stars like Rudy Gobert, Pascal Siakam, Khris Middleton, and the recently retired Danny Green have done. Even so, we will see how the game ends and what impressions Bronny, the Lakers and Anthony Edwards leave us with as they look to surpass last season’s achievements, which, by the way, will not be easy.
