After 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson, the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, is now with the Dallas Mavericks and looks spectacular alongside Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. During his time with the Warriors, Thompson played in 793 regular-season games and 158 playoff games, won four NBA Championships and set numerous records, including the most points scored in a quarter (37) and the record for most three-pointers made in a game (14).
Klay Thompson doesn’t miss Curry at all
Klay has fit in beautifully with the Dallas Mavericks, and alongside All-Star players like Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, his role will mirror his time with Kevin Durant on the Warriors. On that team, Curry and Durant were the most dangerous players in their back-to-back championship runs, but Klay, known for his three-point shooting, benefited from less defensive attention, giving him more freedom and space to shoot. Now, the one who misses the “Splash Brother” is Curry, as he has been left alone with Draymond Green as the only other remaining member of the Warriors’ 2015 championship team.
So far this season, in his first four starts, Klay has made 29 of his 33 three-point attempts (88%) in open or wide-open situations. He’s averaging an impressive 11 three-point attempts per game and hitting 46% of them. He looks like an important addition to a Dallas offense that made it to the NBA Finals last year. If he keeps it up, the Mavericks have a good chance of contending for the Western Conference title, which will be tight down to the wire. Now It’s worth noting that Klay’s last game with the Warriors was not his best, as he scored zero points (0-10 FG, 0-6 3Pt) in a win-or-go-home game against the Sacramento Kings.
Upcoming games for the Mavericks and Klay
But that’s all over in the mind of a winner like Klay, he knew he needed a change and found a great team now in Dallas, where he is averaging 16.5 points per game in nearly 30 minutes. Now with the Mavericks, who lost to the Boston Celtics in the Finals, Klay will be a major threat. As mentioned above, he is expected to be the third offensive option, similar to his role when Kevin Durant was with the Warriors, which were some of his most productive years in terms of points and field goal percentage.
The Mavericks will have a five-game home streak, starting today against the Houston Rockets, then back on the road until Sunday against the resurgent Orlando Magic, and the second back-to-back nights of the season on Monday against the Indiana Pacers, who just knocked off the undefeated Boston Celtics.
