Jerry Jones happy with Cowboys’ losing record; Dak not so much

The life of a Dallas Cowboys fan is a wild ride. And no one rides the ups and downs like team owner Jerry Jones. Just when fans are ready to throw in the towel after the Cowboys got trounced by the Lions with a 47-9 blowout-on his birthday, no less-Jones goes from despondent to optimistic as his team scrapes out three wins to land at 3-4. It’s classic Jerry, never out of the game, even when the Cowboys’ odds feel shaky.

In a recent chat on 105.3 The Fan, Jones kept things real, admitting, “I think we’re having a rougher go than I anticipated… It is rougher, and I did not anticipate the challenges that we’re having with this team.” Coming from Jones, that’s a rare dose of candor. The Cowboys are struggling with a minus-8 turnover ratio, a stat that’s especially painful given they only had 16 turnovers last season. With 13 turnovers in just seven games this season, fans have been left wondering if the Cowboys’ offense and defense can find their groove.

For Jones, however, three wins still count as progress, a “plus” as he sees it. Long-time fans know this kind of comment is quintessential Jones. Cowboys Nation? They might be rolling their eyes, given that this isn’t exactly a record to brag about. Still, Jones keeps faith, no matter how rough things get, believing that this team has untapped potential just waiting to emerge.

Then, there’s the matter of Dak Prescott. In one telling moment, Prescott was reminded by a reporter that he has fewer rushing yards than some surprising names, including Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco. His response? A smirk, followed by, “Dude, you’re funny… Yeah, it’s bad.” Was he laughing off the stat or sending a subtle message that he’s still got plenty of gas left in the tank? Either way, it’s an eyebrow-raising response from a quarterback with a $240 million contract, who so far has only 24 rushing yards this season, compared to 43 from Rodgers.

Jones, however, remains unphased. For him, it’s still “all-in” for a Super Bowl run, a promise he’s been holding onto since the postseason, despite the rocky start. “We’re all in… [to fight for the Super Bowl],” he declared before the season. Yet here they are, battling turnovers, a shaky defense, and offensive woes.

Jones doesn’t shy away from admitting one of the main problems: “I really have a tough time getting past just sheer youth, sheer inexperience in the offensive line.” A veteran observer might agree, especially considering how the offensive line’s inexperience has hampered the team’s consistency and made Prescott’s job a lot tougher.

Despite the struggles, Jones remains optimistic, pointing to flashes of brilliance from Prescott. “I’ve seen Dak make the kinds of plays that would cause us to have a different turnover ratio,” he insists. He’s banking on Prescott to find his rhythm and on head coach Mike McCarthy to bring the experience that led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory. For now, Cowboys fans will have to join Jones in riding the wave and hoping that things turn around before it’s too late.
