Aaron Rodgers helped the New York Jets secure a 21-13 win against the Houston Texans to kick off Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season. The Texans, with a strong 6-2 record, were considered the favorites, but Rodgers‘ performance turned heads. The quarterback credited a unique drink of cayenne pepper and water, suggested by teammate Thomas Morstead, as his “fountain of youth.”
In the game, Rodgers threw for 211 yards and completed three touchdown passes, despite being sacked twice. Though he had one rushing attempt for a loss of one yard, he helped rally the Jets from a 7-0 halftime deficit to score 21 points, while Houston managed only six in the second half.
“I don’t know how much percentage I can give credit to the cayenne pepper, but Thomas wants me to go 100 percent just because he really wants all the credit with this, although he said he heard it from a woman who lives in Australia who’s considered a cook,” Rodgers said.
“So I said, ‘Right in my alley.’ This was the best run I’ve had in a while. Like, you know, I had a couple, like, pedestrian runs against New England. So that was actually semi-athletic last night.”
Contained Stroud
The Jets‘ defense also held Texans QB CJ Stroud to a challenging game, as he completed just 11 of 30 pass attempts for 191 yards without a touchdown and was sacked eight times-a career high for Stroud.
Following the game, Rodgers shared that the Jets watched a clip of JJ Watt critiquing their performance, which he said fueled their motivation in the second half. With the win, the Jets are now 3-6, snapping a five-game losing streak, and are set to face the Arizona Cardinals next, aiming to build some positive momentum in the season’s second half.
