LeBron James revealed in 2013 who was his biggest rival

LeBron James, now in his 22nd season, has carved out an extraordinary career in the NBA, defined by longevity and unmatched accomplishments. The Lakers star has won four championships, earned four MVP awards, and holds the title of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

This year brought a new highlight ,as LeBron became the first player in NBA history to play alongside his son, Bronny James, whom the Lakers selected in the 2024 draft. This father-son duo marks a historic moment for the sport, adding to LeBron’s enduring legacy.

“That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, it’s a moment I’m never going to forget,” LeBron said. “No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.”

LeBron biggest rivalry

In a 2013 interview, LeBron named Celtics legend Paul Pierce as his biggest rival. Drafted five years before LeBron, Pierce was already an established player when LeBron joined the NBA in 2003.

The two frequently clashed in high-stakes playoff battles, especially during LeBron’s years with the Cavaliers and Heat. While LeBron claimed more postseason victories, Pierce led their regular-season matchups, with 21 wins out of 38.

“I would say that I don’t really have an individual rivalry,” LeBron told NBA TV. “I think the closest would be Paul Pierce.”

Pierce earned his NBA title with the Celtics in 2008, securing the Finals MVP. Though he later played for the Nets, Wizards, and Clippers before retiring in 2017, his rivalry with LeBron remains one of the most iconic in modern basketball, with LeBron ultimately achieving four championships to Pierce’s one.
