The Kansas City Chiefs have had a knack for pulling off close wins this season and their Week 10 game against the Denver Broncos was no exception. In a dramatic finish, the Broncos had one last chance to clinch victory with a 35-yard field goal attempt as the clock ticked down to the final second.
Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal stepped up, powering through the Broncos’ line to block the kick and secure the Chiefs’ win.
After the game, Chenal experienced a milestone moment. For the first time in his NFL career, he led the team’s final huddle, a special gesture from Coach Andy Reid to recognize his game-saving play.
“Leo steps up and does what Leo does every week,” head coach Reid told reporters. “Somewhere he makes a play. Defensively, special teams, somewhere he steps up and makes a play, and he did a great job with that.”
A special request
Emboldened by the big win, Chenal seized the chance to ask Travis Kelce for something he had admired since joining the Chiefs in 2022-Kelce’s game-worn jersey.
Kelce gladly obliged, gifting Chenal his iconic red No. 87 jersey with a personal note in black Sharpie on the number. It was a memorable keepsake for Chenal, symbolizing not only the thrilling victory but also the bond and mutual respect among the team.
“I’ve been waiting for the right time,” Chenal said, smiling. “I felt I earned it.”
