NBA legend Walt Frazier hit out at Caitlin Clark on live television by declaring the WNBA star “doesn’t look that formidable” as the 22-year-old headed courtside to watch the Indiana Pacers take on the New York Knicks.
The Indiana Fever star won the Rookie of the Year award almost unanimously after averaging 19.2 points per game, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds at the Gainbridge FieldHouse as she guided her side to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Yet for Frazier he doesn’t seem to buy the hype, as the 79 year-old double champion believes she would be no match for him, despite deciding to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and retire from the sport 45 years ago.
“She doesn’t look that formidable. I could stop her,” Frazier told MSG Network as Clark sat courtside in a white sweater, minding her own business as she supported her boyfriend who is a part of the Pacers’ coaching staff.
Frazier won his rings in 1970 and 1973 and also became a seven-time NBA All-Star. At the end of his career, the point guard has his jersey number retired by the Knicks before being admitted to the Hall of Fame in 1987.
He posted 15,581 points, 5040 assists and 4830 rebounds across his highly successful career from 1967-1979, that saw him become named as one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time in 1996.
Pacers stun Knicks
It wasn’t the dream ending that Frazier might have wanted as he commented on the game involving the club that adores him as the Knicks were dismissed 132-121 in Indianapolis on November 10.
A 40-27 final quarter proved to be the difference maker as the home side improved their record to 5-5 in the Eastern Conference whilst the New Yorkers slipped to 4-5.
Jalen Brunson posted 33 points, 10 assists and six rebounds for the Knicks whilst Bennedict Mathurin posted 38 points, eight rebounds and two assists for the victorious Pacers in Sunday’s game.
