An unrecognisable Kyle Singler has shocked the NBA and the basketball world. The former NBA and Real Madrid player, among other teams, posted an enigmatic video on Instagram with an anguished message that has not gone unnoticed.
Shirtless and with a light behind him that created a gloomy atmosphere, Singler says, among other things, that he fears for his life and is being silenced almost every day. The player immediately had replies from some NBA players such as Kevin Love, who has publicly asked for help for Kyle.
This is what Singler says in his video on Instagram: “I need to make a statement because I feel like my voice is being silenced. Every day I’m thrown shit in my way. I’ve been mistreated and abused. My community is fucked up. I’ve been made a mental example of and I’m afraid for my life. Every day I look the other way as someone who can be a problem and make things difficult for people, when I’m just trying to be helpful. I feel there is a purpose to not value or respect me.”
Kevin Love was quick to respond to the former player, who retired in 2019 after a spell with Tenerife, with another message on social media: “I love you Kyle. Reach out to me when you can“, before writing: “To everyone who has spent time with Kyle Singler and whose lives he has touched: shower him with the love and support he needs and deserves”.
Players such as Isaiah Thomas also responded: “We’re here for you, now and always” or Sixers player Andre Drummond. “You’re not alone, brother.”
In the NBA, Singler played from 2012 to 2015 with the Detroit Pistons and from 2015 to 2018 with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Before that, after leaving Duke University, he played for Lucentum Alicante (2011) and Real Madrid (2011-12). He also played for Monbus Obradoiro (2018-19) and ended up at Iberostar Tenerife (2019).
